why when i click on 'open link in new tab' in internet explorer 7 does it open in a new window anyway?

Update:

maybe i need to clarify....i've been using ie7 and when i want to open a link in a new tab in the same window, it used to work. however now when i do that it opensi n a whole new window,how do i fix that. i've tried resetting all the ie settings already

    Try this: Go to Control Panel and click on Folder options. Under the General Tab click open each folder in same window.

    No. It will just open a new TAB inside the IE.

    Use open link in a NEW WINDOW instead.
