Why do people answer 'I don't know' or 'I have never heard of...'?

What a waste of time - how has the world be enriched by you telling us that you don't know. It's not like we're taking any notice of you. You are just some sprite image, probably live thousands of miles away and have no chance of ever interacting with anyone who matters one to one.

So please tell me why should we care that you don't know, or have never heard of....?

Because those kind of people are on here just for the 2 points they receive for answering your question. It very well could be a dumb answer but then again, they don't care. They are after points and points only.

But there are more people on here that would answer your question with respect and the utmost honestly they could bring forth. There are people on this site that truly are asking and seeking help.

You just have to over look those asinine ones that are here just for points. It's sad.

Tricky, as mentioned above, some users write non-answers in an attempt to gain points. Others may just want to let you know that someone read your question. However, this is a violation of our community guidelines and can be reported to us as Not an Answer. After a Customer Care agent reviews the report and agrees it falls under that category of violation, the answerer will receive a warning (and point deduction) to prevent future posts like this.

I have wondered about that myself and the only thing I came up with is that people use answers like that to gain points.

    Because the want 2 points,

Because just as you said- if they are silent, no one is noticing them.

Because they have read the other answers to the question, and figured- well, while I'm here....

I just ignore those responses, no need to give it another thought!!
