My computer is EXTREMELY SLOW when starting up!!! PLEASE HELP ME OUT!?

Question

My computer is about 2 years old, and has been running really fine until about two days ago. Now whenever I boot up, it stays at the WINDOWS XP Screen [Loading Page] for about 5-10 minutes or so until it can change into the WELCOME SCREEN. After getting on the WELCOME SCREEN, the computer runs normally and fine. But its making me really mad having to wait for it to boot up?

Windows XP Pro
Used 27.3 GB out of 179 GB



I have tried going to run and typing in the MSCONFIG thing, but that didn't help. I cleaned up the disk space and switched my Spyware Finder thing to Spyware Search & Destroy. I've found a few spywares, but I do not think that is the problem.

Please help me!!! Thank you so much, and try to be specific because I can tend to get a little slow sometimes when concerning the computer and it's hardware of whatever.

Start  RUN, type MSCONFIG, start up tab,  Uncheck programs that you do not want to start up when you boot-up.

My Computer, click on c: drive, click on Documents and Settings,
click on your Profile name.  If you do not see a folder called,"Local Settings", Menu across the top, click on Tools,
Folder Options, View.  Click on Show hidden files
Uncheck Hide Protected files.
Open the folder, COOKIES, delete all files.
Click on the folder Local Settings.  Open the folder Internet temp Files, delete ALL entries.
Open the folder Tem Files, delete all entries.
Open the folder RECENT, delete all entries.
Go back to C:document and settings
Go to All Users, 
click on Start Menu, Click on Programs.
Delete any ICONS that you do not want to run at start-up
Reset Tools, options to original configuration
Desktop, empty Recycle Bin
Restart computer.
Down load trial version of DISKEEPER.
Defrag C: drive. 
Reboot system

Few things I woudl suggest.  I know you said no websites or downloads but I recommend you try this first

That will make sure you do not have any Spyware.  If the slowdown is sudden, that is often times the problem

After you run that then try this

Go to START --> RUn and type EXACTLY what appears on the next line

chkdsk /f c:

Then a black screen will pop up, click YES then reboot.  Rebooting will take about 5 minutes this time because its checking for errors

Then try this:  Right click on My Computer --> Manage  
Click on Disk Defragmenter then click DEFRAGMENT

Have you installed more than 256 mb RAM? if not buy some RAM .Its better to have 500mb if possible but 256 is also  quite good.

Delete all unnecessary software from ur PC. 

Check the paging files alloted. Do this---  open control panel then hit  advanced tab under this u find performance under this settings .hit this.under this again advanced tab.
you can change paging file size

i recommend 500+

U don't mention what OS U use I answer it hope U use WinXp . right click on my computer > Properties > Advance > Performance setting > Advance > Virtual Memory change > Change the Virtual memory drive by "SET" C Drive have no paging file & "SET" D , E or any other drive have "custom" Paging file ( Min size will be Double of RAM & Max Size will be Re-Double of RAM). This will Deff Increase the speed of ur computer Try this out . If possible Then Format your computer & Reload all S&#92;W it Will Deff work

try doing a disk defrag. then when you went to msconfig did you go to the startup tab and unclick what you didn't need?  the disk defrag should be under system tools when you click on start then programs then accessories it'll be under the system tools folder. and try running a virus scan. let me know if that helps.

Try to use a step-by-step confirmation bootup, you can pinpoint the module or driver or virtual device that is taking the longest out of all of them.

You can try Hover Inc's RegSeeker (http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm). This is a very good freeware, it can manage you your startup entries and scan for registry errors, which may be the root of your problem.
