Hard to answer without knowing what you are on.

Short answer: yes some antidepressants can cause cognitive impairment including confusion and memory loss. However, this does not have to be the case, and no the effects are not permanent. If you change treatment, you could lessen the side effects.

Different antidepressants have different methods of action. Try to work with someone who can give you a range of options.

The SSRI category are the most popular these days, but some people have reported good results from tri-cyclic antidepressants, and each family of drugs have several differently

compounded versions which might have less side effects for you.

If you are taking an anti-anxiety medication, they can have fairly strong side effects at a relatively small dose. This is a trade off worth discussing with your doctor.

The bottom line is it is worth a little distraction to feel better, but you should not feel you have no options there are many.

    Take Care.

It could be a normal side effect. It depends on the particular drug(s).

Is it permanent -- hard to say. It may remain a side effect as long as you use the drug. Some antidepressants have nasty side effect and/or an unpleasant withdrawl period.

It's important you let your doctor know about these problems so he can adjust your medication accordingly.

Unless a vitamin can increase serotonin levels in your brain how is it going to help? Yes I know some are mild antidepressants but it as far as I know they're nowhere near as strong as medical ones. My advice is to tell your doc and try some different ones.

Source(s): Taken many different types of antidepressants.

I would say this is not normal... but are you sure that it is your antidepressants? Please go to your doctor and talk to him about it and if it is maybe you can try another one.
