What's wrong with my transmission?

Doe s your tranny shift properly when you accelerate? Or does it rev high and nothing happens? Caravan transmissions in the older models always had problems, I had a Small leak and eventually had to get mine re-built on my 93 caravan 3.3 litre V-6. Have a mechanic try and find the peak, and repair it. Try with getting the transmission fluid flushed and filled and have the filter changed as well. If this doesn't solve the problem try and get it re-built. Good Luck.

A simple problem would be the fluid level decreased enough to cause your transmission to start slipping. You should have your leak repaired first. Two common places for these transmissions to leak fluid would be the Transmission pan to case connection, and where the external solenoid pack sits on top. It's the device that makes a ratcheting type sound when it shifts gears. Hope this helps.

it could also be the input or output speed sensor. if they fail it causes the transmission to go into "limp in" mode. you will probably be able to hit about 40 mph. if it is this ,it is about the cheapest fix for a transmission there is. usually about $25-$35 each sensor plus labor. good luck.

but by all means make sure it is full of fluid and get the leak fixed!

If it's an automatic and it's slipping like that, either one of your clutches is slipping or you don't have enough fluid to fill the torque converter and it's slipping.

You need that leak fixed ASAP.  You may also have already done enough damage to clutches to need a rebuilt tranny, but the shop will have to judge that.

It maybe low on tranny fluild. If you fill it and it still slips you may need a new transmission. One way to tell if your trannys fried

Smell the transmission fluid if it smells bad like burnt clutches its time for a new transmission.

Most likley your rear seal on the transmission is leaking. Also the front seal oil pan, or lines maybe leaking. It sounds like it might be time to change the oil filter for the trans and find the leak. You can check out your vaccum modulator, by removing the rubber hose to it and seeing if tranny fluid comes out of the module. If it does it needs to be replaced. Have fun. i am sorry to dissapoint you but your transmission needs to be rebuilt. i had the same problem with few cars. It is the torque converter, which is located inside your transmission that needs to be replaced, the car is getting stuck in gear.

You need either a new torque converter or a new/rebuilt tranny. No other way to say it, but, you are in all reallity looking at a new/rebuilt tranny, and this is common for this make model and year vehicle.

Your auto trans is ready to take a dump. Start thinking about a new one, sorry.
