Creative Shoe Storage Ideas?

We recently moved into a new apartment. Being we had new carpet layed down at move in we have a new rule "All shoes go off at the door". Well this has created a hurricane of shoes in the foyer. does anyone have a creative idea for shoe storage at the front door. We have 3 adults and 3 small children so you can imagine that 6 pairs of shoes ( usually its more than that) at the front door as soon as you walk in. Any Ideas please, I'm going out of my mind tripping over shoes. (putting shoes in the bedrooms is impossible with 3 kids under 3 so that wont work plus I'm at work most of the time and whoevers at the house with them has a hard enough time just getting the shoes off of them before they are running through the house.)

As a Mother of FIVE kids. I DO know exactly what you mean.

It was years and years later, now that most of my kids are grown and gone from the home that I got an excellent idea from a MAN.

He uses an old plastic laundry basket in his closet, or near the door, when we all come home, we put our shoes in the basket and out of the way.

You can decorate it up so it's not to tacky somehow.. but that's is the best organization I have seen yet.

Why I have never thought of that myself, I will never know.. because I have tried different methods throughout the years, lets face it,.. a kid will NEVER use anything that involves work.. kicking shoes into a basket is easy.

I have a closet just inside the front door. I have a 16 compartment hanging rack on the inside of the closet door. I also have the "no shoes" rule. It is made of plastic and one shoe fits in each compartment. With my twins, both shoes fit in one compartment. Hope this helps.

why not try what i suggested to my daughter family of 6. hang one of the sectioned door hangers they make for closets for shoes and sweaters. there is usually a closet close by in the entrance to hang it from. it works well. the small ones use the bottom ans work up tp grown-ups.

i had this same issue. what i did was take a CD holder and flipped it on its side. that way you can match it to your home decor. right now i am using a wrought iron looking one. it works well and looks great. plus it is an inexpensive fix.

i have a bench at my front door. we can raise the lid and there is four separate compartments in it. we all have our own compartment and that's where we put our shoes, hats, gloves, jackets,etc......i love it its also comfortable to set on.

what i did was use a small 1x4 with 2inch coat hooks and mounted them to the wall next to the door. i painted them to match the house so you could not see them that well. all you do is hang the shoes and that's it. it also keeps the unwanted critters out of the shoes....

Try to find some inexpensive "cubbies". One for each family member.
