"Baked" cheese sandwiches?

Someone once served me a cheese sandwich baked in the oven instead of fried on the stove. Has anyone else ever done this? What temperature should I set the oven and how long should I bake it if I want to have the cheese fully melted, the center soft, and the edges crispy, but not burned?

Wrap it in foil.. the edges n outside will be VERY crisp like u toated it..the inside will melt n b moist. 300 degrees is good. have the oven preheated already. stick it in the oven for 5-7minutes. experiment.. not all ovens r the same. The cheese WILL be very melted...n the outside very crispy. make sure u let it set before eating

I just use a low grill for a few minutes - just keep your eye on it and take it out when the cheese is starting to bubble (it will be HOT MOLTEN CHEESE!!! so use mits etc.)

    Top Tips:

if you lightly toast the bread first, it won't be soft

if you put cheese right to the edge, the bread is covered and won't be burnt

don't forget it - as it suddenly goes from yummy to burny!

have a plate underneath to catch any molten cheese drips

a small bit of Dijon mustard can be nice

EXPERIMENT - you have nothing to loose!

    enjoy

It tastes about the same except the gas fumes manage to enter into the sandwich(es) in a tiny way. If you use real cheese, it melts in a frying pan when you use a lid on the pan.

I do mine without butter by using my George Foreman grill. Frozen white bread, add cheese slices. Put in the GF for 3 minutes.

350 degrees is a good place to start, but its best to experiment until you get it just the way you want.

I usually do mine in a toaster oven, just toast it open faced then put it together...yummm.

you can put it in the broiler it would cook much faster but you need to watch it so that it doesnt burn and it will be crispy

put butter on both sides, put it on a cookie sheet, prob around 350 degrees.
