It is honey and spice flavored liqueur. A liqueur is a strong alcohol that is usually sweet kind of syrupy. For substituting it depends on what you are making. If you don't like the taste of drambuie you don't want to use it. You can probably substitute any other liqueur. If you are baking and you want to avoid alcohol or just the cost, honey would probably work well and give a similair flavor. If it is a real small amount (1T) you could use vanilla or another flavor extract. If you are making something on top of the stove I like to replace liqueur with concentrated orange juice, the frozen stuff. Sometimes you don't need to replace it with anything you can just do without. I hope this isn't too confusing but without more info I can only speculate.

For a Rusty Nail, I sometimes substitute Disaronno for Drambuie. Disaronno is an almond-based liquor, so it's not as sweet as Drambuie, but I like it just as well and it costs less.

I'm interested in what you are concocting if Drambuie is an ingredient in the recipe?

Drambuie (dram 'boo ee or dram 'byoo ee) is a honey- and herb-flavoured golden scotch whisky liqueur made from aged malt whisky, heather honey and a secret blend of herbs and spices.

It is produced in the Isle of Skye, Scotland, and can be served straight-up, on ice, or used as an ingredient in a mixed drink, such as the Rusty Nail cocktail.

The alcoholic content of this liqueur is 40% (80° proof).

Drambuie is an orange-flavored liqueur. Triple sec is a cheaper alternative that also has an orange flavor. When you get an upscale margarita, triple sec is usually upgraded to Drambuie.

It is a liquor. I don't know of anything that is even similar. You should get a bottle. I am pretty sure they sell them in small containers (individual shots). Good luck!
