What is the point in having a widescreen tv?
Ive had a widescreen for quite a while & the main reason to get one was so I could watch movies the way the were meant to be seen, but every widescreen movie I own is still thinned out on the tv so you get the black spaces above & below the picture. I thought widesreens were supposed to cut this out? ? ?
Some movies even have subtitles inside the black spaces. Its as if the movie makers think we enjoy having our screens cut in half!

I know exactly what you mean, thatbloke. When you watch a widescreen film on a normal ratio tv (4:3) you expect to get the borders, because it's like trying to fit an oblong shape into a square, but with a widescreen tv (16:9) the screen IS oblong so the widescreen film should show without borders ... but it doesn't ... mental!
Oh, and justme, I don't think he's a moron at all. How do you know he HASN'T got the settings how you suggest? It sounds to me like YOU'RE the moron.

but widescreen folk do get more on their screens. we on regular tv get a lot cut off from the sides on some programs. i would love widescreen. stick with it. plus it looks cool!

You are a moron beyond description.
Change the view from panoramic to normal...most DVDs have this option.
And widescreens are cool for more things, not just watching movies.
As the phrase goes... "God gives bread to those that have no teeth."
Sheesh.
