Why do some answers stay in voting or open for MONTHS (not just wks) & others are resolved right away?

I.ve read a few answers on this topic but I'm not getting the actual answer I want You all explain the rules about 1 wk/2wks, in voting, resolved, & tie breakers but I am seeing questions in both catagories that have been there for MONTHS (some for 6 mos.!) They're gathering dust! What exactly do they need to be set free? Look in undecided questions...you'll see thousands! How can we clear this up?

I regularly look at old questions and vote on best answer - but someone today complained because she got best answer and there was only one answer. I had the choice of no best answer but her answer was good.

To clear them up, click on answer, then on vote for undecided questions and off you go. Once you have voted, click take me to another one. Carry on until you have voted on as many as you want to within your limits. There has to be a clear first past the post winner for them to be cleared up.

It feels good when you release some of these trapped questions and best answers.

Vote for a best answer to the questions. It may be that those questions haven't had one vote, and if one person votes for a best answer in a 12-hour period, then they've choosen the best answer. Questions that have had more votes for more answers will be harder to resolve, but it's the same principle - once a answer has a majority of the votes for 12-hours, it will become the best answer.

They ended in a tie so they stay in voting until the tie is broken.
