The movie The Village...?

I just saw it for the second time last night and I'm trying to figure out who was the one that was skinning the animals and hanging them from the doorways? Are we to assume that was Noah (Adrian Brody's character) even though it was never said?

Yes, I think it was Noah. Towards the end when they opened the room and found the suit missing, his mom said "The animals."

That's when they realized what had been going on.

I agree with Mr. C. I think the elders were doing things to scare everyone to stay... and Noah had kind of figured it out and was going around in the suit scaring folks.

However, I haven't seen the movie in a couple years... my memory could be faulty.

The mutilation and skinning of the animals was not attributed to one person. One of the elders took it upon him/herself to perform the deed without consulting the others. I'm am sure it was one of the people that had lost a loved one to senseless violence and has still not come to terms. Since the children were beginning to wander further from the village, they wanted a strong object lesson.

The elders were the ones killing the animals and skinning them. They had to help and reinforce their legend of the creatures in the forest so the young adults and children would believe it and stay out of the woods and not ask questions so their world could remain a secret. Legends and fairy tales fade over time you need to see something to really believe it.

Nope...it was the village elders...they were all doing it and making the rest of the village believe that the monsters in the woods were doing that becuase someone went into the forest. That was part of their ploy to keep people out of the woods so they couldn't escape the village and ruin everything they had worked for!
