"Answers" encourages kids not to do homework?

What is the point of Yahoo Answers if it lets school kids have others do their homework for them?

It teaches the kids nothing.

It clutters up the site for real people.

The whole point of a Q & A site is knowlege. Cheating students are the opposite of that.

How do we petition Yahoo to change their policy? I don't mind HELPING a kid figure out a problem, but most of what I see are simple multiple choice questions or "what's the answer to this math equation".

Like you, I don't mind helping someone figure out a problem. Understanding how to do something can sometimes be difficult. When I see questions that ask for answers to math problems, english questions, etc, I tend to bypass those questions. I don't mind answering a poll type question to help out with a homework assignment. But I won't do my own childrens homework (one in 7th grade, one a sophomore in college), so I sure won't do someone else's childrens for them.

I think the homework help category needs to be more defined. Explaining a difficult mathematical theory is one thing - doing their work for them only teaches them how to copy the answers off the internet. And how do they know the answers are correct?????

Until then, and it may not happen, I suggest those of us who have a problem with it continue to not answer those questions that are blatant cheating on homework.

And a word to those students who simply post their homework on Answers to avoid having to do it -- teachers use this site, too.

I think we have choice whether to answer these questions or not. Nowadays there are A LOT of ways kids cheat on homework. This is just a drop in the hat if you ask me.

I am not saying it's right by any means but I have a 14 year old and if he doesn't want to do it he won't if he wants the answer he'll get it. I say no he goes to someone else. So you see. It's everywhere. Why hold back something we enjoy?

I hear you. I once started to answer a question about a bunch of rivers, and I was doing all the research.. Thank god somehow or another I closed out of what i was doing and lost it..lol..It made my head spin..lol..All the while I'm doing the research I'm thinking why can't this child do this? If they have time to post a question they have time to look it up themselves. I don't have a problem helping any kid in need of help, but I won't do it all for them.. That's so insane.

I too agree with you and never answer homework help questions because I almost feel its like cheating...they might as well copy the answers from the smart kid before class

You know what q&a wasnt just designed for you and everyone. You really should just leave the kids alone besides it doesnt affect you and sometimes they need help b/c sometimes their parents cant help them and they need to go to other places to get help.

I agree as well. I just skip the questions that look, even romotely, like homework.

Totally agree. If they can not do it themselves then there is no reason for us to do it for them. Homework Help should be just that help.

Ya I come across those a lot I just don't answer them.
