Why do dogs roll around in other dogs feces?
I thought my Yorkie was playing and scratching his back and top of head...little did I know...it seems that when he's doing this, he is rolling around in other dogs feces...what's up with that?

Rolling in feces, though, is really very common. Possibly a dog’s ancient instinct to mask his scent, which would then enable the animal to sneak up on their prey without detection. Even if your dog does not hunt, he may not like the way that he smells—especially if you’ve just given him a bath! Or he just likes the smell of the feces. Here are some suggestions:
1) You might keep him on a leash so that he can’t roll in other dog’s poop.
2) Pick up his poop up in the yard as soon as he does it.
3) You could also try pairing something unpleasant with his actions of rolling in poop, such as squirting him with a water bottle. OR a blast from one of those personal safety device airhorns (your neighbors might not appreciate this). OR get a citronella spraying collar with a remote spray capability. Dogs strongly dislike the smell of citronella, and this spray comes from the collar, under their chin and up toward their nose.

Dogs do really dumb things sometimes. I've had many dogs and one ate socks, another would pee in his food bowl. another would push all the food out onto the ground before eating it, another would spill all the water out of the water bowl till I attached it to the wall. It's crazy I know but that's what dogs do. The average adult dog only reaches the intelligence level of a 3 yr old. so maybe that's why.
