How can I make an object float magnetically?
I have a decent collection of rare earth magnets..
And I've tried to make plates, LEGO things, and whatever else float by taping these magents the the desired object and a base. No matter what configuration I try, I can't seem to be able to make anything float successfully. Do any of you have an idea of a certain configuration I could use?

EDIT-PLEASE READ:
I think there might be some confusion here. This is partially my fault.
I want to make an object, not a lone magnet, float.
For example: I have tried taping magnets with the north pole down all along the bottom side of a plate. These are facing outward sligtly. I have another plate below with the north pole facing up, the magnets inward slightly. This seems like it should work, so maybe I just need to execute it more precisely.

It will be virtually impossible. You need to balance all magnetic forces perfectly. Also, all magnets will possess flaws and will not exert uniform force over it's entire surface.

Unless you have high precision equipments it would be virtually impossible. You'd need to find the exact location of the center of the magnetic field, and put the item there. Not to mention if you don't have metal, you'd need a very strong magnet.

For magnetic levitation to occur, there should be an equal magnetic force acting on all sides of the body to be levitated. This requires powerful magnets that are carefully placed and are of equal magnetic strength. This would be quite difficult for everyday practice.
