Getting Rid of House Flies
* Sprinkle dry soap into garbage cans after they have been washed and allowed to dry; it acts as a repellent.
* Plant basil or tansy near the doors to your home or where flies tend to cluster.
* Essential oil of clove can be used as a repellant. You can dilute it with olive oil or a body lotion and use on skin for people or pets.
* Set a sponge in a saucer and soak it with essential oil of lavender to repel flies.
* A pot of tansy or basil set on a window sill or table will help reduce the number of flies in the room.

Perhaps the flies are already in the house, maybe a colony (if that's the right word) breeding somewhere. Horrid thought, I know, but if you're clean and you don't leave your windows and doors wide open, I don't know what else it might be.
What about having a snoop around any large indoor plants, or even under the house - they could be breeding there and coming up though the floor.
Good luck, it sounds just awful :-[

do you leave any windows or doors open? i've had frogs get throught the screens on my patio so it doesn't matter if there are screens.
