Has anyone ever lived in Cincinnati?
And what did you think? Is it a nice place to live? Is it expensive to rent?
Thanks

I have lived in Cincinnati and I love it. Like all places, it has areas that need improvement. Yet, a city is like a potential spouse . . . you have to find one that is right for you.
Cincinnati's "happenings" go on in the neighborhoods. Cincinnatians tend to be local community oriented people who maintain a close connection to their neighborhoods and who do not move as often as people do in more transient urban areas. So, you get a rich distinctive community culture in the neighborhoods. The plus side is that there are real community feeling and loyalty. The down side is that it is hard for new people to break in.
The West Side has been slowly transitioning from established neighborhoods to crime-ridden poverty-stricken neighborhoods for the last forty years (since the interstate highway projects displaced poor black communities around the downtown area). It's slow, but it's occurring. Jobs are moving to the northeastern exurbs, and so are people with money (and white residents who were the dominant group on the West Side -- "white flight"). In some sense, the old West Side is dying, and until new job opportunities occur for middle and upper middle class residents, the trend will continue.

Are you talking about the city of Cincinnati itself or the general area (including the suburbs)?
I have been living in the city for the past couple of years. It has its good and bad points and varies a lot depending on the neighborhood. Overall, rent is not bad, but it is expensive in the university neighborhoods. Other costs are very reasonable. One of the best things about this area is that there are a lot of people who are active in trying to make it a better place to live. And of course there are a lot of art and sport activities going on all the time, from high school to college to professional.
Temperatures here are pretty moderate most of the time. Humidity can be really bad in the summer.
On the negative side, it can be difficult for new people to make friends in the Cincinnati area -- takes some effort. A lot of people continue to hang out with their high school friends. And this area tends to be very conservative -- occasional little places where people aren't, but those are the exception.
If you have more questions, feel free to IM me.
Good luck! :)

I grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio, in the suburb of Western Hills. Cost of living was about the same as any place else. I didn't like it, though, and quickly headed south for warmer territory at age 20 years.
Surprisingly, a few years back it was rated by a national registry as one of the most preferred cities in which to live. If you like a lot of hilly driving, pot holes in the roads, crowded highways with inconsiderate drivers, and lots of air pollution, then Cincinnati is your town.
Oh, by the way there are loads of places to rent at nominal costs. Check out a real estate website for Cincinnati to see what's available.
Cheers!

I grew up in the area... Unfortunately it was the "other side of the tracks" when I was young... (poor)
Cincinnati is a pretty cool town...
If you are single, here are some places to look for a house...

If you have a family, I suggest Ft. Thomas, KY!!! homes from 80k-5M... very little crime, close to everything, and one of the best school districts in the area.
Good Luck!
Oh yea, Taxes are cheeper in KY except for automobiles...

You couldn't pay me enough to live in cinci.
I live out side ou\f it, but I would never willingly live there. Too much hate crime and shooting and drug deals. I say steer clear!
