Are you aware of the image you portray?

I'm not trying to be judgemental.

To those of us that don't often find ourselves embroiled in a Dems versus Reps, Us versus Them, or Conservative versus Liberal arguments, this political forum seems very inhuman, unloving, and mercilous considering you all don't really know much of anything about one another in a real way.

Do you ever step back and wonder if you've gone too far or if all the arguing is pointless?

Please feel free to tell me that you don't care about love, kindness or your fellow man. I would find that quite interesting.

Unfortunately, love, kindness or respect for differenent opinions aren't compatible with anonymity.

I will admit that most of my time spent here is for my pure entertainment, but I have really learned a lot from people, many of them have some great information to provide and I am grateful, those who abuse this system, well, I just ignore or have a good laugh for the day!

  • I think that a lot of us are aware of it, and I think that there's a lot of sniping going on given the frustration we're feeling.

But I don't agree that the arguing is pointless. As a liberal who has seen her country co-opted by radical authoritarians, I can't think of a more important conversation to have than:

Do we still believe that liberty is worth the struggle?

Do we consider human rights endowed by our Creator and inalienable, or are they privileges to be enjoyed in peaceful times but thrown away once we are spooked by an external threat?

Are checks and balances to be enforced at all times, or is one branch of government allowed to act without any scrutiny of its actions?

Is it "Give me liberty or give me death" or is it "Take my liberties, just keep me alive"?

And, perhaps the most important question: "Can it happen here?" -- Or, "Is it already happening here?"

Remember, these questions basically come down to who lives and who dies in the world. They are critically important ones.

So, it's not pointless. By any stretch of the imagination.

It's human nature to take sides. We couldn't survive without the pack.

Certainly people should strive to be compassionate and broadminded, but they shouldn't have your finger wagging at them for being human.

By castigating them, you become what you're preaching against.
