My personal topic I like to keep on top of & debate is horse slaughter. Did you know that although Americans won't eat horsemeat, we allow foriegners to open up slaughterhouses and kill our horses for human consumption? To horse lovers this is like allowing a Korean company to open up a slaughterhouse in the US to kill puppies and turn them into doggy hamburger.

Most of the horse meat that's being exported is going to Europe. The EU has strict requirements on what chemicals/drug/hormones are allows in meat animals. In the US since *no* horses are raised for meat, we give them drugs all the time clearly labelled "not for use in animals intented for human consumption." Anything from fly sprays to bute to supplements. People in belgium have no clue how many drugs/chemicals/supplements a person's horse may be given, and I think if they knew the meat would never be allowed in through the strict EU rules.

Right now HR 503 (Horse Slaughter Prevention Act) has PASSED in the house, and it's on to the Senate this session. So this is an important and current topic for anyone who likes animals or is interested in the safety of our food supply.
