does smoking cause cavities?
I've heard that the heat from the cigarret ruins your gums and that is where cavities come from. Is this true?

NO SMOKING DOES NOT CAUSE CAVITIES. IT'S ALL THE DIFFERENT CHEMICALS IN SMOKE THAT CAUSES THE GUMS TO BE SICK. THE ACTUAL TEMPERATURE OF THE CIGARETTE HAS NOT EFFECT ON THE GUMS.

Cavities come from bacteria that live on your teeth, and aren't caused by smoking.
Smokers I've seen are disproportionately characterized by receding gums and dead teeth -- but I don't know if any studies have been done to show a correlation.
For almost everyone, there are no good reasons for smoking, and plenty of reasons for quitting. So quit, and save yourself a lot of money that you can spend on clothes or or something else.

Cavities can be caused by dry mouth. Salavia actually helps to fight off cavity forming bacteria. Its pretty common for smokers to have dry mouth, hense more cavities. I would recommend chewing sugarless gum (Trident w/ xylotol) after all meals and after smoking if you can't quit.
