I-130 for spouse - the process and the time line (specifically, Mexico)?
Hi. Could anyone who has experience with filing an I-130 describe to me your experience? I would specifically like to know about couples from Mexico. How hard was it? How long did you have to spend in Ciudad Juarez? Most importantly, how long was the wait from when you started (your priority date) until the end (when you and your spouse were able to return together to the US) ? I'm really worried right now because my husband and I filed in September & he has to go to Mexico in only 9 days! Please help. How long will we be apart? Thank you so much in advance.

Do you live full time in Mexico? You are only allowed to file in Mexico if you live there too.
If you live in the United States you must return home and file with the CIS Service Center responsible for your area. Each service center has different processing times based on how busy they are.
Once the Service Center has processed the paperwork it will be forwarded to the embassy or consulate you designated when you filled out the form. They'll contact your husband and notify him of what they need him to do. Once he's done what the embassy needs (physical exam, police clearance, etc.) they'll process the 130 and eventually call your husband for an interview.
You should figure at least 6 months from start to finish.
