Strained ankle?

I recently strained my left ankle (pulled a muscle) and now I feel aches and pain in my leg and thigh. I can only feel it in my left leg and sometimes numbness and burning sensations. It's hard to explain as I never felt like this before and you can't feel pain when you touch it, only the feeling.

The worse is when I'm sitting down in front of a computer...as my leg feels uncomfortable.

Should I seek a podiatrist for help or will it heal by itself but by months? I went to see a doctor but he didn't have a clue of what to do, just gave me tablets but didn't help.

Any suggestions...

Update:

The area is my calves, ankle and foot...and some areas of my thighs...all feeling numb and aching. Worse is when im sitting down>

I remember I strained my ankle one time and for a long time afterwards it would ache, especially when the weather was cold and damp. I went to see a physiotherapist and he used a laser on me. He said I would need several sessions, but one session and I never had the pain again. I'm not sure what he did, but it might be worthwhile going to see a physio.

It sounds a lot like you have impinged a nerve when the ankle has snapped back after you initially rolled it. This is very common as there are alot of tendons and muscles around the ankle joint where nerves can become trapped.

This won't heal by itself, in fact it will probably get worse as the nerve may even die. Go straight to a doctor, or ring a manipulative physio as they can help with anti-inflammatories for your pain and move the ankle around to get rid of the impinged nerve.

May I ask though for an accurate description of where the pain occurs?

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. The first 48 hours were excruciating and the pain was un-believable. I've never had a serious ankle injury before.

So I immediately treated it using the RICE method. The following day, the bruising and swelling were so horrible. I found out that I got a second degree sprain and immediately panicked after that. I had a football game on that week and it been looking forward to it because I've been training for rt. I had teammates that had similar injuries and it took them months to fully recover, some of them stopped playing altogether. So I kinda had a short-term depression because I can't imagine myself not being able to run and play sports anymore.

Because I was so desperate to recover again, I contacted a lot of people that I know who do sports and asked them if they had similar injuries. One friend of mine, from the boy's football team in my university, told me about H.E.M. Ankle Rehab. I got a copy 4 days after I got injured. I immediately read and followed what was instructed and felt improvement on the first day. I was able to walk a bit, but I was in pain.

A couple of days after that, the swelling and bruising were subsid-ing significantly and on the fourth day, I was walking comfortably again. Although I've had felt a bit of stiffness, I continued doing what was instructed. My sister was surprised that I have recovered this fast. I told her about this book and was shocked on how effective the procedures were. I'm just so happy that this book was shared to me and how effective it is.

Heal your ankle fully & fast?

if i strained any muscle and it feels really bad, i use chinese medication oil but some westerners cant stand the smell so maybe you should seek a podiatrist for help.

It could be because when you are walking that you are compensating with other muscles that you normally don't use when waling or doing everyday activities. Just try to stay off your feet for as long as you can.

you could possibly have some nerve involvement --you need to see an ortho or neuro Doc....

also it may be something as simple as when your ankle was out of servise you shifted your weight alot and other parts of your body are feeling it,,,,RN
