Do you agree that Federer's dominance has killed some interest in the game?

I'm getting bored seeing Federer hold the trophy at the end of the week. I feel that he makes things dull and predicable. I think Nadal's emergence is a breath of fresh air at least he makes things more interesting. I tend to watch women's tennis more these days because it is more open.

I agree. But, this is the case with a lot of sports. One person or team gets dominant and it kills it for the sport until that dominance is over. I tend to go for the underdogs anyway. I don't care to root for the person or team that is shredding the competition.

No, I think the game had been on somewhat of a general downturn in interest before Federer came along. And while I'm sure people would like to see upsets once in a while, I think having that dominant player actually makes it more interesting because it gives people someone to cheer against.

Personally, I root for Federer and I'm happy to see him week after week holding up that trophy. I will admit, though, that having Nadal as a foil has made things more interesting.

First of all, women's tennis makes me laugh, but that's a completely different topic. That aside...

I don't think that Federer has killed interest in the sport. If anything, I think people tune in more. They either want to see him win and dominate because they are smart enough to realize they are watching history in the making and that he is quite possibly the best tennis player to ever play the game. OR, they are irritated by his dominance and they just to love to hate him. People often watch those that they hate because you love to hate them and its hard to tear yourself away. It makes it interesting.

Federer is an INCREDIBLE athlete, and even though you might not like the predictability of his game and how he always wins, you have to appreciate that you are witnessing the best player of the open era, if not the best player EVER.

PS--Whoever said that Federer has a big head must be a complete idiot or just doesn't really follow the sport. Federer is one of the most humble tennis players you'll ever find. As a rule, tennis players are generally conceited because they are solo artists. They get all the glory and all the pain. They represent themselves and take pride in their performance because it is theirs and theirs alone. But Federer, he is not at all conceited. He is confident. He is always quick to recognize the skill of other players and you'll be hard pressed to find him in your face rubbing in a win. If you want to see a tennis player with a big head, watch Lleyton Hewitt or Rafael Nadal or Maria Sharapova or Andy Roddick (back in the days when he could actually win). I enjoy all of these players as well, but Federer has more class than any of them. Research this, read anything any tennis analyst has ever written about Federer. You won't find ANY of them saying Federer is conceited--in fact, you'll find the opposite. They all speak on his humility and grace.

Definitly! Women's tennis is so much better these days. Nadal and Federer win almost everything so its boring. On the women's side it's way more open.

I do not know if I am getting bored, but I do find myself rooting for the other guy except Nadal and I like Federer , He is just scary good.

Yes ...i think it does but after some time he will get weaker....he gives us some thing to look forward to though....we wonder can Nadal or nalbandian beat him this time....and gives us suspense...So yes it is good and bad in both ways that Federer is still around...

    Hope this Helps

Yeah, I think it totally has. I think that if he didn't have such a big head and so self-centered, he would have more of a fan base instead of so many people hating him. It would be a nice change to see someone else with a trophy or winning a tournament, don't you?

No I don't! I enjoy watching the best tennis player the world has ever seen! Lets face it his reign won't last more then a couple of years so I enjoy it while I can!

Dominance? Don't ask Nadal that question ! Nadal has his number on clay.

It's not just his dominance. It's his dominance and the fact that he's annoying on top of being boring.

If someone more exciting was that dominate, the interest would still be there.
