Windows media player has a built in "ripper". Ripping is when you copy music from a cd into your hard drive.
Stick your CD in and wait for windows to recognize it. If windows asks you what you want to do then choose rip and follow the instructions.
However, if nothing happens and if windows media player doesn't automatically show up start it up yourself. Find Rip in the menu (depending on which version you have).
Once you hit the rip button it will ask you if you want default values or not. You choose no and then it will ask you where you want the files saved and at what quality and so on. This is where you tell it where to save the file on your external hard disk.
