Is there anyway to keep a German Shepard from shedding?
Everyday I can sweep up enough fur to make a second dog. Is there any kind of a suplimant or shampoo that can reduce his shedding?

Daily grooming and weekly bath will reduce the amount that gets on to the floors. But there is nothing that will stop it. It is a natural process of shedding the summer coat and growing the winter coat. The same thing will happen in the spring, shed the winter coat and grow in the summer coat.

Do NOT clip your Shepherd. GSDs are double coated dogs, who "blow" their undercoat twice a year - spring and fall. The only way to speed up this process is by brushing your dog daily. The Furminator tool works wonders in pulling out the undercoat, or you can use an undercoat rake. When the dog isn't blowing their coat, the hair they shed is just dead hair. This will happen year-round, just like any other dog. A good diet helps maintain your dog's skin and coat as well. Feed a premium kibble or a raw diet for the best coat. You can also use Salmon oil as a supplement 1-2x per week.

There are many kinds of shed control shampoos however due to the fact that this breed is a heavy shedder.....there is still going to be a fair amount of shedding. Check out your local petstore or ask your vet which kind of shampoo would be best. you should not use anything else other than a shampoo because that could harm the dog. Good Luck....
~By the way...depending on where you live...your dog might be shedding more due to the weather change or what is known as a SHEDDING SEASON

There is some over the counter products sold at the vets office. But I had two Shepard's and no luck. As my dogs got older they did shed a little less. Brush every day it will minimize the shedding

Fall and Spring is when all dogs shed the most. They are "blowing their coat" They are getting rid of winter coat for summer and summer coat for winter. All you can do is brush, brush, brush. After brushing from the neck toward the tail, brush from the tail to the neck. This is called back brushing and will get a lot of the undercoat out also.

Im sorry to tell you but no there is no way to stop it from shedding. If the hair is starting to irritate you cand it is getting on your clothes then I suggest using a lint bruch. If you love your dog than the fur shouldnt bother you too much.

It seems there are a lot of people with coated breeds that are suprised that they shed!!!!!!
Get a hairless dog next time!!!
Dog with hair DO shed and it is normal. YOU shed everyday too!
I let a groomer use one of those Furminator things on one of my Newfs, and it does get out undercoat....and a lot of TOPCOAT!!!
Dog looked like crap after. Would NOT let them use it again!!!
Why is it bad for a coated breed, or ANY breed, to shed???????
It is normal. People shed hair and dead skin cells all day long. Dogs need to do this also.

I've heard that you can slow down the shedding by giving them cod liver oil as a supplement on their food. you can purchase this at a health food store
or you could just shave him :) j/k
here is a website i found that says how to give it

No seriously, other than thorough daily grooming there's nothing gonna stop that hair from coming out. Sorry.
