Did Noah require oxygen?
Genesis 7:20 indicates that the waters of the Biblical flod rose so high that they covered all the mountains. That means that the ark was at an elevation equal to or greater than the higherst mountain-tops.
Now, when people climb Mount Everest, they wear high-tech thermal gear and carry oxygen tanks. Even so anyone who makes an ascent returns the same day or probably dies. It's not because snow and hiking wears them out! It's because at that elevation, there is simply not enough atmosphere to retain heat or to breathe.
Noah, on the other hand, was at that elevation for 150 days (Genesis 7:24)! How is this even possible? Was the ark air-tight and equipped with enough oxygen for himself and all the animals? They can't even burn things to keep warm or it will make their oxygen problem far, far worse! Even if Noah was endowed with an almost superhuman respiratory ability, what about the multitude of animals?

I decided to have some fun with this one. Let's make the assumption that somehow all this water could show up. Yes, the point was made earlier that this would just push up the atmosphere. However, since you're pushing this constant volume of atmosphere outward (starting at a larger radius), the thickness of the layer should decrease. Since air pressure depends on the amount of air above us (i.e. the thickness of the atmosphere layer), there should be a pressure decline. But how much?
I looked up some numbers and ran out the calculation. Note that this is all approximate. Using that the earth has a radius of 6371 km, that 3/4 of the atomsphere is contained with 11 km of the earth, and that Everest has an elevation of 8900 m. I found the volume of this portion of the atmosphere and used this volume to around a planet with radius 6371 + 8.9 km. It turns out that the thickness of this part of the atmosphere is about 10.96 km, compared to the 11 km before. With these numbers, you'd have about 2.1 km above you at the top of Everest. Obviously, this should not have any kind of effect. You wouldn't have problems with a 40 m difference.
In summary, he'd be fine even though things would have changed slightly.

God had him build the ark to prove his faithfulness. Others undoubtedly did the same when the water started falling and they all died. The continients were ripped apart and some went down and some went up. It was not a small event, the grand canyon was probably created at that time by ton's of displaced water. That is why rock strata is so hard to say how old the earth really is. It was compressed. HOw did Jonah stay alive in the big fish probably a shark? Or the three hebrew in the firey furnace when the soldiers that threw them in there died from the heat. Why didn't the Lions eat Daniel? HOw did the REd sea split apart. It wasn't just knowing how to manuver through it because it came back down on the Egypians. Or the tornado of fire called a pillar of fire that held them back. God made the earth, sun, moon and stars. Also the human body. NOah was in the palm of his hand thinking he was riding the waves. God kept him safe along with 7 others to preserve the human race. I believe he further brought back some of the animals, that died in the flood waters. Like in Australia, and some islands. We don't know what all he did do. but this is certain keeping them alive with out oxygen would be real easy next to making all the animals.

I agree, the air pressure would be the same as the air was simply pushed a little higher up. The density would be the same. But where did all that water come from and where did it go? The ice at the north and south pole can't produce that much water. Remember ice is less dense as water. So if you melt ice you get less water by volume. The mountains have been the way they have been for millions of years.
The best possible scenario, the local mountains were flood when an earthquake in Antarctica or ice shelf in Antarctica fell into the ocean. They got the results of a huge tidal wave. The story just got larger as time went on.
Noah short on oxygen does answer a lot of questions. He was the last person to pass on the knowledge before him. It explains everything. How god made the heaven and earth... and six days...original sin...Adam and Eve... Noah suffered brain damage from the lack of oxygen.
Better still, where did they get all the water for the animals? I mean really, the outside water was salt water, undrinkable.
If there is even one lie in the bible, it taints the entire bible as fiction.

Don't you think that god would have took everything you stated which I also know to be true in to account when he planned all of it out, The ark was not built overnight nor was 2 of every animal gathered overnight. God made us so god knows what destroys us. The only thing god did do in a week was created the world.
Also you need to take into account that the world at that time was not filled with pollution at that time as it is now which can effect oxygen absorption levels a both higher and lower elevations

The Ark would still be at sea level where atmospheric pressure is highest. In addition the extra water weight would have distorted mountain heights as you would know today due to other plate pressures.

Many things said in the bible are sometimes a little exaggerated. I am a loyal Christian man and although some things are scientifically flawed, the main point of the story of Noah was to be faithful to God and be prepared for the uncertainty. Example: saving your money for the future when you are old can cannot work.

I did see a show on Mount Everest that showed that there was proir flooding. But a great question! Don't know the answer, but you are absolutely right, the body is dying at that altitude. Keep questioning. I like questions like this, the Bible usually has the answer. Although, this one might be a difficult one, lol

well if the water takes up all the space that the air normally would, where do you think all that air goes to? is all that air that they breathed somehow still under water? did the air just like...go away? (rofl!) :-p naw, the air was above the water. the water displaced all that air up above where noah was. (b/c water is about 1000 times denser than air) the atmosphere would logically have to have been above the water, since air doesn't like...dive down into the ocean and like...um...stay there? this question is humerous.
edit: i keep looking at other answers, and what gives? if there's global flooding, then ALLLLLL of the atmosphere is being pushed up to the SAME elevation. (lack of) air density is what kills folk on everest. if all of the atmosphere is up there...guh...you guys are killin' me!
Source(s): 8th grade science - water is denser than air. if air is under water, it will rise until it is no longer under water. noah was not under water, ergo noah was where the air was. - johnkamfaileeLv 51 decade ago
Please understand that Tibetian are living there without any equitment for breathing. An yogaist can stay in water for 3 days long. Some of the them can buried inside the earth for 45 days without food, drink, and breath. In China most of the tantra monk can stop breath and eat and drink for more than 45 days. I don't think Noah, the holly man had a problem.

Assuming that you want an honest answer and not silliness about magic bubbles etc. consider your question. You are assuming that the pre-flood world was just like the post flood world. Maybe the mountains were not so high then.
