Not 'why this?' or 'why that?', but simply 'why?'.
It is a question with no ultimate answer. Therefore it is the ultimate question.

There is only one question: How do we make ourselves as happy as possible in the relatively short span of our lives? All other questions like 'what is the meaning of life' or 'why are we here' are ridiculous, because they assume that those answers exist in the first place.

I think the most popular answer is simply : why ? , but I think it's just : how ? .
