The town hot springs pool is huge and a lot of fun. It's open year-round. There will be most likely too much snow to hike or bike, but there's a ski area close by, Sunlight, which is not huge but a great place to ski. You can rent skis or a board there.

I would suggest hiking in Glennwood Canyon which is on the interstate 70 very close to Glennwood Springs. For instance do the Hanging Lake trail (you can access it from the interstate). It is a short, but steep hike to the hanging lake which is a really beautifil mountain lake - the most clear water I have ever seen - you can clearly see the fish and the minerals on the bottom and the landscape is stunning.

If you are staying for a longer time you can also go to Colorado National Monument at Grand Junction. It is a clearly underrated national park with amazing red sandstone canyons (you can check out http://www.nps.gov/colm ). Grand Junction is also a nice city with a couple of good restaurants.

There are of course also a lot of mountains along the interstate around Idaho Springs, so if you ski or snowshoe there are a lot of possibilities.

i'd go the the hot springs!!! they are right there in town. I would also check out nearby towns such as Vail and Grand Junction. If you have time check out Black Canyon of the Gunnison as well as Grand Mesa and white river national forrests. There is also this website : http://www.glenwoodcaverns.com/ . As for a hotel i'd just stay at the one with the hot springs that way you don't have to pay extra to take a dip it will just be right at your fingertips.
