US DVD Recorders that can be hacked?
Ok , I've moved to the US with my entire DVD collection being Region 2. I can't get my existing Philips DVDR310 to output NTSC so I have to buy a new player.
Which US available DVD-Recorder is best to go for, so that I can hack it to play my UK disks. It would nice to go for one that does HD upconvert to!
I've found the Panasonic DMR ES25s and EH55s, the Samsung DVD R135 and the Sony RDR HX175 - but can't find hacks for them.
Has anyone got hacks for the above or a suggestion of the unit I should go for (with a hack)
Any help greatly appreciated !!
oh... and suport for EPG or TVGuide would be nice (not that I'm making it impossible for an answer!)

look into lite-on (I think the model is LVW-5445. It's easily hacked to be made region free and records/plays all DVD types +/- R/RW. Also has 160 gig hard drive for recording on the fly.

Why a DVD recorder? A DVD player would be a cheaper option, unfortunately multi-region DVD players are quite rare in the US because they tend not to be interested in videos from outside their region.
In Europe they are more commonplace because we like importing cheap DVDs from North America and sometimes crazy stuff from Japan.
If you must have a DVD Recorder then any of the Panasonics are great, DVD-Ram is a great advantage - you can record the rest of a program while playing back the start! Also, if it's running out of disk space, it will magically decrease the bit rate to fit the whole programme in.
This generic Panasonic dvd hack has been reported to work with the ES25, and presumably the EH55
