i had a similar problem with windows media player, try googling or yahooing the said codec online, download and install it, and see if it will work. Its for free and it will most likely work.

Source(s): That is how I got a video to work.

Personally, I don't like 'Real Player', it's buggy. I like 'Media Player', but it doesn't play everything. Here is a player that plays most anything and it's free:

    VLC media player 0.8.5

It is a free cross-platform media player

It supports a large number of multimedia formats, without the need for additional codecs

It can also be used as a streaming server, with extended features (video on demand, on the fly transcoding, ...)

VLC - the cross-platform media player and streaming server

VLC media player is a highly portable multimedia player for various audio and video formats (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg, ...) as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols. It can also be used as a server to stream in unicast or multicast in IPv4 or IPv6 on a high-bandwidth network.
