Question about Panama City, Panama...serious answers only.?

My brother is in Panama City, Panama right now and just called me in the States asking me to find out if there is a WalMart or Barnes and Noble in Panama City........does anyone know or provide a link that I can research that?!?!? He's in the military and shipped in last night - he asked a cabbie to take him to WalMart and they instead took him to a liquor store. Thanks for help!

I live in Panama, neither store exists. It just doesn't, however, he can mail or purchase across the internet or he can go to the local Multi Plaza in Panama City (PANAMA!) Multi Plaza has a great bookstore (I did find some English ones) that goes after some name, I think of the author of Don Quijote de la Mancha (Miguel de Cervantes?) At Multi Plaza is a also a great tool store. Panama is a place where you can get a variety of products cheap, cheaper than Walmart. Tell him to go to Los Pueblos and to stores like El Chance, El Costo, Gran Morrison for other books, etc. Al Brook Mall is good, but too crowded and I think not what your brother needs (is it fashion clothes?!). So Multi Plaza is good, not Multi Centro, as well as Gran Morrison, or maybe EL Machetazo.

Clavado is right on the money. Those are the best places to go. Now just one more thing, brush up on your Spanish, because the girls are not fluent in English most of the times. There's a new spot called Cotton Club, that is supposed to be very good. I know the guy that does their immigration and he says that the girls are hand picked. Since you're picking an upscale hotel in the financial district, make sure it's the Panama Marriott, that way you'll be in walking distance from both spots. As for the moral issues, don't eat up all the hype. Sure some of them owe money, some really like to do that, trust me! However make sure that you use protection all of the time. I have never seen a Wal-Mart there. I can't recall ever seeing a Barnes and Noble either. I know they have some book stores over in the mall at Al Brook, which is not to far from the docking area on the Pacific Side. If he speaks spanish it will not cost but a few dollars to get over there, otherwise it will cost him 5 or 6 dollars. The bookstore will have some books in English.

Neither of those stores exist in Panama, sorry. He could probably pick up some books at Gran Morrison. I'm really not sure what the equivalent of Wal-mart would be. I'm quite sure he can find all he needs and more at the Albrook mall.

There's a Cost-Co, which is pretty terrific if you've been out of the States for a while. There's also a great duty free area on the other side of the canal which is only an hour or so by air-conditioned bus away. Fantastic deals on electronics. Amazon.com becomes indispensable for books, and I suggest he sign up for Spanish lessons immediately. That way the locals will know where he wants to go instead of automatically taking him where they take the majority.

  • there is a super walmart at 10270 front beach rd. panama city beach
