Our mid term election is over and there is a huge reversal of power. Why is there no rioting and death?

Seriously, any other county that had this type of reversal there would be rioting and death. Have you ever noticed that the United States of America seems to be much more civilized than the rest of the world?

Not entirely true. Donald Rumsfeld's political career is dead, and George Dubya is dead in the water. Oh, and the rest of the world thinks it is an absolute riot! ;-)

Almost every other country. As your neighbour to the north, we have been subjected to years of abuse from majority governments as well and there was no rioting when we voted out the incumbent party either. Gotta love it when a democracy works and voices do get heard. Congratulations America, now it is time to come together and reign in an out of control administration. We've had a few as well but our country, like yours, is rather elitist so it is nice when all votes mean something. I will reserve judgement on your civilized comment though. Stop invading sovereign nations just because you don't agree with their leaders, let the UN work and it will if given a chance.

Have you ever noticed that the United States of America seems to be much more civilized than the rest of the world?

this is the very thesis of which the 'Western' powers used to colonise people.

I'm not saying you're wrong, nor am I agreeing you are right.

    Civilised has many meanings.

In my country, there're no rioting if such a thing happen as well.

So how can it be that the US of A seems to be much more civilised?

There can never be one reason to a single event, but a cumulation of reasons. It has to depend on many other things.

No doubt I understand you're American and proud of your country and I don't deny that there's many things to be proud of, but there're downsides to everything.

first to justme4u, it's 4400 unborn a day, not 42,000...you upped the figures 10 times more than it is.

I agree with the poster before me..we essentially have a one party system with both enriching the wealthy and the corporations and beholden to them but it is somewhat better with dems in charge.

We may be civilized as you call it (please note if there were only a few in the streets after all Bush and the reps did due to their apathy, they aren't going riot over this).

Plus people from outside America who we have dropped depleted uranium on and damaged the DNA to the point the unborn babies you republicans claim to love so much (unless they are Iraqi I guess) look like Frankenstein monsters and the birth defects are the worse I ever saw and up 1000% (not to mention iour own troops unborn offspring without limbs and eyes) certainly do not think of us as civilized, but exceedingly cruel and evil. Also the rest of the world involves many, many nations Interesting how you lump them all together as uncivilized..

Even though republicans and democrats disagree doesn't mean they wish death on each other. I'm sure some do but not enough to take action. Remember, this country is actually purple, not red and blue.

Civilized and absolutely more stable than any other nation. That's why I love this country. There were no bombings, shootings, coups or anything else. The worst that happens is flame wars on Yahoo Answers. Haha! Gotta love this country

That is simply not true. The other democracies in Europe have power shifts all the time. And if you think the US is so peaceful politically, you need to go back and take a look at the late 1960's.

    Been there, hated that.

  • Go figger! See how easy it is to have dissension and STILL NOT riot and kill people!! nd we get accused of being "closed minded" and "unthinking barbarians" by other countries!

Nothing has changed except the name from Rep. to Dem.

America has always had a one party system.

Do you want them to riot?

Americans riot when their basketball team looses...or something like that happens.
