Lucky you. Read the back of your citation & call the number that you see listed for assistence. They will direct you. Sounds like you need the advice of a Lawyer. If you cannot afford one, the court will appoint one for you at a low or no cost fee. If you want to know what happens in court, then the only way to know is to actually go into a court room & observe the process. Any day of the week, anyone can walk into any open courtroom to watch & listen to the cases being held. You don't even need to check in. Just go. You'll understand the process a bit better.

Public intoxication is such a ridicoulous offense. Most likley if you pay a small fine and I mean very small you should be able to get a plea of "withheld judication" which means that if you won't be on probation but if you do have another charge filed on you within the time the judge gives you the public intoxication will stay active. Don't worry about the offense you won't see any other court actions taken against you.

People who say this will have no effect upon your drivers license do not know what they are talking about. Most alcohol offenses in California carry a one-year license suspension if committed by somebody under 21. However, especially in areas like Isla Vista, there are generally alternatives to conviction available. If you cannot afford an attorney (which is likely) one will be appointed for you. Be sure to ask for one, and discuss this with him.
