The disappearance of the American Melting Pot. When America started, people came from all over the world to create a better way of life, to become Americans. The immigrants would work hard to learn English, to get jobs, to become strong citizens that wanted to help create an even better America. Now immigrants come and want the benefits of being an American without becoming an American. It doesn't seem like anybody wants to 'melt' into the American society. They want to be separate but equal. Don't get me wrong, I am proud of my German/Welsh heritage, but I fly an American flag in my front yard, not a German or Welsh flag. I live close to the border with Mexico, driving around some areas you find it hard to tell you are in America, Mexican flags fly everywhere, marquees at school are in Spanish, more and more billboards are in Spanish. It used to be the special store that had a sign that said "Habla Espanol", now it's hard to find a clerk that doesn't have an accent so thick you can understand them.

I'm not a racist or a redneck, in my family there are Latinos, Tunisians, Blacks, Russians, Irish, Scottish, Apache, Welsh, German, Cherokee and Chinese. Talk about a melting pot! Our family get togethers look like a UN meeting! My point is, if you want to become an American, become an American. If you want to keep your native identity and culture, maybe you should have stayed home.

Control freaks. I consider it the paradox of one of the most liberal countries. You want to find the most open minded people? Read their books etc? Go to the US but then in every level of society, on many sides of many debates are these control freaks. They may not represent the majority of Americans at all, but these people seem to be far to prevalent in the culture. I mean in the US election for example, the republicans were calling democrats traitors. the gay marriage issue? Its an issue of control. I mean my hetro marriage is sacred whether or not some gays get married. Some of the positions of those fighting on the left are equally controlling.

Why? Well, I assuming I'm not over generalizing, I'd say its because the US is the most powerful country in the world.

The problems you mention are a subset of the larger issue of American education - or lack thereof. This is turn is affected by a complementary problem I call "rampant anti-intellectualism." Knowledge and intellectual achievement are seen as belonging to the less-than desirable domain of "weirdos," "geeks," "wonks," "elitists," etc. This means our ability to deliberate on issues is crippled at best, and usually knee-jerked and wrong-headed. We limit ourselves to demanding that "our" view be enforced - and reason has no place in the discussion. It is the arrogant reign of ignorance.

    black vs whites

white people seem to dont care and just want to live, but it seems the african-american, or americans as i like to call them.. are always on the edge about racism, and are the first to name call and erupt. ( in most cases ), they can't get over it, and this generation now of african american, hasn't felt racism, so i think its just fueled by racism against white people for something u haven't experience, but they act like they have experienced it first hand. funny that ay.

Social retardation. A lot of people suffer from it. They are they type of people who spread racist thoughts and sterotypes. They behave in mean and socially inappropriate ways.

Probably Blacks vs White problem. So much tension with these 2 groups. Blacks always crying racism and Whites getting condescending stares from the blacks. Also, the illegal immigration problem.
