why does my hair color change a few weeks after applying hair color?

i have naturally dark brown hair, but i color it medium brown with loreal feria hair color. the color looks amazing for like 2-3 weeks, then it starts to get light. why does this happen? i use no fade shampoo but it still changes.

No-fade shampoo does not eliminate fading, it only slows it.

The reason your color fades to lighter even though your hair is naturally darker is because the over-the-counter dye you are using most likely contains too much peroxide. Peroxide is used to open up the hair shaft to allow for greater color penetration, but it also lightens your base color. Most OTC dyes contain lots of peroxide because they assume the consumer is going to have the darkest hair possible. It's kind of a quick fix to make sure everyone gets the color on the box, but the fading process can yield ugly results in return.

So what happens right after you dye your hair is that you get a nice brown shade with the dye, but your "real" color underneath is lighter than you started with.

How to make sure this doesn't happen: buy professional hair dye from a beauty shop like Sally's, and mix it yourself. Since your cuticle is already opened by previous peroxide, opt for level 10 peroxide (the weakest one). This will achieve maximum color deposit with minimal lightening of your base color. Additionally, the color will likely last longer this way, since the stronger the peroxide, the more hair porosity increases (permanently), which means the color will fall out faster since the cuticle is too open to trap the color in.

Oh, and please never use over-the-counter Feria. It is generally thought to be a metallic dye. Metallic dyes are BAD. When you color over them with regular dyes, it can cause severe breakage and hair damage.

    Good luck.

When you color your hair a lighter color the peroxide or ammonia (most colors that lighten usually have one or both of these ingredients) lifts your natural color up a few levels and then the pigment in the hair color penetrates the hair shaft with the new color. If your hair's outer layer, called the cuticle, doesn't close around the new color it slowly washes out. Some causes are using water that is too hot, using products that aren't pH balanced, and heat or sun exposure. Also if your hair's inner layer doesn't have enough protein the color molecules don't have anything to bond with. You could try doing a protein treatment before you color your hair next time. If your is seriously lacking in protein it could take a few times of protein then color before you notice a change. (I'm talking with at least 3 or 4 weeks between color applications.) Make sure before you style your hair you are using hair products to protect your color from the heat. Wear a hat when you go in the sun.

With the washes, your hair fades over time. You have to check if the hair color is semi permanent or permanent, that might be the thing.

in case your colour is fading out that rapid, you're probable making use of a semi everlasting colour or demi everlasting colour. you are able to attempt what's stated as everlasting colour, which wont fade yet will strengthen out which incorporate your hair, so each and every 4-8 weeks youd purely ought to get a retouch. I reccommend going to a salon and having it carried out professional fairly than procuring save offered colour. additionally, i could shy away from thoroughly black, as quickly because it everlasting black its very problematic to get the different colour, which is composed of brown. wish this permits!
