I don't see how anyone could agree with the death penalty?
What is the point of killing someone for killing? Is it supposed to prove a point to the public? If so, it is certainly not working. Studies have been done and have found that in states that have the death penalty, it has not made a difference in the number of murders. There is no reasonable argument for it. If we kill killers, are we going to rape rapists? It just doesn't make sense. It costs more money to kill someone by lethal injection than life in prison, it takes an average of 15-18 years from trial to execution. If anyone can think of a reasonable argument for the death penalty, I want to hear it.
I say that you put them away in prison for life without parole. And to jarofjung, it is more expensive to lethally inject someone than life in prison.

Just what you do with them ? I agree , a killing is a killing and I think it started with an eye for a eye or revenge .
As it says in the Bible , " Vengeance is mine , " saith the Lord and I don't seem to remember him saying , that it's alright to kill someone that hurts you .
Am I right or wrong , just asking ? If your against killing baby's then why not against all killings
But do we really help society , by killing one another .?
Does it really deter murderers , doesn't seem to , in the studies I've seen .

once lady justice finds a person guilty beyond any reasonable doubt, (and DNA is making that a lot easier these days), execution should be as quick as possible. problem person eliminated. why wait? example:
if you saw someone kill your best friend, and at trial you were sure that was the murderer as the defendant. why drag out extensive, costly trials. in the example i've given you, what is there to appeal???? seems me me they are appealing that they got caught being a criminal. ludicrous. the courts are already backed up to the point that they are releasing people to make room for new criminals. quick execution may be a deterrent. as it is now, it's not so bad because you know it's gonna be ages away. rapists should be fixed like cats or dogs. maybe it does cost more for lethal injection, but look at the number of cells that would be freed up if they just did the execution and it was over. continuing to house and feed several death row inmates doesn't seem to outweigh moving death row along faster. If they were mirandisizied(sp) properly and all legal counsel has performed correctly, then........adios.

I see your point. I think death is the easy way out. How many also murder and then commit suicide to avoid justice? Maybe prisions should introduce mandatory medicial testing on death row instead? Then the cost of housing criminals could be justified by advancing medical reasearch and perhaps saving a few innocent lives for a change. Maybe not knowing what you could be subjected to could become more of a deterrent to commiting the crime in the first place.

It is the case of "One Less Murderer" to feed and house. It costs a whole bunch of money to take care of an inmate that does not deserve to ever see the light of day again. I believe justice should be swift and final. I believe it is a humane and just way to deal with one who would murder, rape, or kidnap another human being. What do you propose? Putting them in time out? Let them live out 16 more of those years on the taxpayer dollar with 3 hots and a cot with cable? No they should get the punishment they deserve an eye for an eye. And why not rape the rapists? With a spiney stick.

The idea of capital punishment is as old as man himself it is to stop the idea of that crime and detour similar crimes from happening recently it has been taken out of contest because it cost so much it should be done by a cheaper firing squad all other methods are in humane and expensive.

The death penalty is not about punishment or disincentive, in my opinion, it's about permanently removing those who are convicted of certain crimes from ever being able to do them again, and thus making the public group safer. It works best in small (<1000) to medium (1000 - 500,000) groups. In large groups the effect isn't trackable, and the possiblity of improper conviction outweighs the possitive result - - - I don't understand why we don't go to exile, flying people who get convicted of stuff that we don't think that they are going to recover from to Palestine, or Iraq, or Siberia.

Rape the rapist ?? are you sick ?? Why would you say something so stupid ?? We should get rid of jails and open places to help these people. These are people who have been held back by Bush and this is a fact. I have secret papers that show it is to get votes by using fear. If he tells you he can protect you from these folks if you give up some of your freedom he has WON.

In a word (or 2) Tim McVeigh. He planned and carried out the bombing in Oklahoma City that killed 163 people including 18 children in a day care center. That act removes him from the species. I don't the like the concept of the state killing people, but I would have had no compunction kicking that stool from under him and having him do the Short Drop. (yeah, yeah, I know it was the needle).
MCVEIGH DESERVED TO DIE. SOCIETAL REVENGE HAS ITS PLACE.

In cases where there is guilt beyond all posible shadow of a doubt, of murder, simply regard it as "taking out the trash."

Try being a child who has been abused or murdered by a pedophile and then see what you think of the death penalty.
