Popular Christian pastors/preachers?
As a Christian, I am apalled at some of the most horrible teachings coming from the most popular TV evangelists (Phelps, Clefto Dollar, Benny Hinn)
Why do you think that the falsest of prophets have the biggest audiences and means of giving their message?
Eternity,
I do my part to speak out against such things. I am a Bible teacher and I make sure that my students will never fall for nonsense like I mentioned along with whoever will listen.
I don't understand how you can question my faith on this topic when Jesus Himself said that there will be many false prophets. Along with other bible refrences that others have already given.
I do my part. What do you do?

I once read a book called "Satan is alive and well on the planet earth" The Bible states that In the last days men will depart from the truth and follow after false teachings which we see happening all the time. Satan is the most effective when he is behind the pulpit. I have exactly the same feeling as you about these so called TV Evangelists as they seem to be there promoting themselves and growing ever richer from the offering collected from their gullible followers who seemingly have little or no Bible knowledge. Some of their teachings simply blow me away as they are totally off the rails. It behooves me that most members will not pick up a Bible and read it for themselves as through the reading and study of the word their senses become sharpened and enables them to discern between a false teacher and a true. The only genuine TV evangelist would be Charles Stanley as he is totally non charasmatic and goes to the heart of the matter. I like your question and would be pleased to hear more from you.

Opinions vary, so does the education and backgrounds of followers. If you take an average protestant church service in the USA, for 1 hour here is in general what occurs. You walk in, the person beside you is stiff and doesn't speak, (you spent 1 hour dressing before you went there). Then there is music, in walks the choir, you sing though you don't want to. The pastor(s) get up and make annocements, another song, you sit down and then the pastor talks, normally a verse taken out of context, and used for 40 minutes to preach about (sermon), the collection plate is passed around prior, someone prays, you sing again and leave as few people even make eye contact with you. There are variences of course but in general it's the same everywhere. What did you get out of your service today?

2 Corinthians 11:14 says "...even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light" The Greek word "angelos" or angel here means angel or messenger. The Greek word light "photos" can mean actual light, or illumination or understanding. (like Matt 4:16)
He isn't out there galavanting around as a light bulb with angelic wings. You could say that he disguises himself as a messenger (angelos) of illumination (photos). He disguises himself as the messenger who helps you have understanding of the scriptures.
I also think that these false prophets offer excitement and preach the prosperity gospel. Yes, Benny Hinn especially saying stuff like there is a trinity within the trinity, 3 Jesus, 3 Holy Spirits, 3 Fathers, and other wierd stuff like women gave birth out of their sides. All these prophecies and claims need to be held to the scrutiny of Deuteronomy 18.

Because the people that are following their teachings were not grounded enough in scripture to know the difference between a false prophet., that is also how alot of the cult religions get people as well.
Alot of people are sucked in by the flamboyance or the thought of being healed, honestly if you had the chance to heal people would you charge them to get in and see you or would you be going to the hospitals and healing? I don't believe that Christ charged to heal.

For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.

It is my opinion that so many are able to succeed because Christians are forgetting the power of Almighty God and His ability to do as He says. Christians are trying to create convient theology and are not able to understand the most important thing and that is the "not doubting" part. We can know what Father God means if we ask Him and believe without doubting. Check out James and John.

Can something be "falsest". Its either right or wrong, there is no degree...
And to asnwer your question, because people have a desire to love, to be loved, and to matter... and these "false prophets" give them something to hope in, something to love... something that may make them feel loved...
My question to you is "How can you sit back, call yourself Christian, and let this crap continue?"
