I am sorry to hear about your condition. My brother had Osteomyelitis in his right leg and hip joint. Abscess got formed at several locations in his leg. He had 3-4 surgeries to completely clean the infection. I guess ask your doctor if surgically draining the infection is possible. I am not sure how bad one's condition has to be before amputation is required. Sorry I am not of much help here, I wish you all the best.

I have never heard of amputating from navel down. I have seen hemipelvectomies for malignancies. I would get a consultation before doing anything and not from this uninformed group. A good orthopedic surgeon.
