You will need a small plastic prybar looking thing for just that purpose, but don't expect to much with such an old car, they may break anyway, however they aren't too expensive to replace just go to a dealership's parts department to order them.

The professionals use a spade tool designed just for that.
It looks like a long screwdriver with a putty knife sized end on it, usually with a slot in the middle to go around the clip.
I doubt you'd find it in the tool section at WalMart, probably Shucks, Checker, NAPA, or another parts house may have one.
Or see the Snap-On or Mac tool dealer.
When you see their truck at the dealership, they're inside selling tools to the mechanics. Wait by the truck & ask for one.

You can go to a NAPA store and buy a tool that is designed for this purpose. It looks like a putty knife with a slot in it.
