Is it a bad thing to turn my car wheels when I park?

Whenever I park my car, I like to turn the wheels because for one, I think it looks cool (especially when my car is clean) and also because I heard it makes it harder for crooks to steal the wheels or the car itself. But I wonder could this damage my car over time?

I drive a 1990 Pontiac Bonneville in good shape. Thanks!

Update:

My model does have power steering.

The only bad thing I can possibly imagine happening is when you do this, it creates flat spots on the tire because it is not rolling. Tell you what. Since you think it looks cool...And I do to, Do this....As you park your car, as you are rolling forward or in reverse, turn the wheel to the desired direction while rolling to prevent flatspots on tires. Also because it's rolling, it takes a bit of the strain off the power steering rack and pinion....

Ok the answer to your question all depends on whether your steering is power assisted or not. I'm not familiar with this model as we don't have such a model where I come from. However, the power steering mechanism is universal.

If your steering is power-assisted, then yes it is bad to turn your wheels when you park. Reason is that when your park your car with your wheels turned, there's an imbalance in the power steering fluid. Over time, this will damage the power steering system. That's why manufacturers do no recommend parking this way with modern cars as most of them come with power steering as a standard item

If your steering is non-power assisted, then it's okay to do so. There won't be any direct damage to the driveline caused by this.

I really don't think it would be more difficult to steal wheels if the tires are turned to one direction. They may not be able to get all four, but one of the front ones will be exposed pretty well.

As far as damage, it will only have minor effects on your car. Make sure to switch directions every other time so your can won't develop a "lean" and you drive.

And yeah, it does look kinda cool...lol.

No that's trouble-free adequate, it won't reason any harm. In days long previous by ability of there have been a pair of autos the place in case you probably did this the unexpected loading from the hydraulic capability steerage pump would desire to reason the pulley to interrupt and probable snap the cambelt, yet Lancia Gammas are uncommon beasts those days.......

No, in fact it is actually reccomended that you turn them away from the kerb so if your car rolls back the kerb will stop you.

However, if someone bumps into one of your tyres (which can easily happen) it can wreak havoc with the tracking!
