802.11 is a WiFi standard, the difference between the two is:

    802.11b

    Op. Frequency: 2.4 GHz

    Data Rate (Typ): 6.5 Mbit/s

    Data Rate (Max): 11 Mbit/s

Range (Indoor): ~50 meters (~150 feet)

    802.11g

    Op. Frequency: 2.4 GHz

    Data Rate (Typ): 25 Mbit/s

    Data Rate (Max): 54 Mbit/s

Range (Indoor): ~30 meters (~100 feet)

So basically, there is the difference of speed (b is slower than g), and also range (g has shorter range)
