Please help! I fear my 4-year-old has an ear infection, is there anything I can do?

It's too late at night to go to the Doctor where I am right now.

Update:

Yes, she complains her ear is hurting and she's crying. She's had them as a baby a few times, but hasn't had one since. I just need to get her through the night and was wondering if any of you knew of any remedies? Anything? I was told to try salt in a sock.

Update 2:

Please don't tell me to go to the ER. I'm not an idiot. If I could do that right now I would. No offense to anyone, but I'm not a teenage girl with a child. Oh, and thank you to the ladies that are helping me. :)

give her constant, regular does of tynaol until you can get to a Dr. That will at least help her with some of the pain. Also, prop her up for sleeping..her ears will hurt much more when she is laying down. Give her a warm cloth to put over her ear. You can also put the blow dryer on gentle over her ear. Often with ear infections liquids in the ear can make it worse. This will help dry up some of that. I would not put anything in her ear, in case it makes it worse...(especially pee!!!..I cant believe that one)..It will be a long night for both of you...i hope her ear heals quickly.

try a warm rag right below her ear, also if you have some cildrens medicine of anykind that has pain reliever in it, that should work for the night. I started keeping garlic ear oil in my house for this situation, next time your around an herb store pick a bottle of it up. Then you just warm it and add 2-3 drops to the ear, it will clear it right up.

Don't be alarmed ---it is not uncommon for 4-year olds to get ear infections. The previous responder is right about "getting through the night" with a children's dose of Tylenol or Advil ---but TOMORROW ---get to a DOCTOR who can properly diagnose the cause of the ear infection.

When I was little I use to get them alot. My mom always got a warm, moist washcloth to lay my bad ear on and that was the only way I could sleep. Just use hot tap water and ring out the excess water...make sure it's real warm but not hot!

This sounds really sick. But a lady at work said her son had an ear infection and they couldn't seem to get rid of it. So someone told them to pee in a cup and pore it down there ear. She said it worked and by the next day it was better. Never tried so I don't know if it works. But that wasn't the first time I heard someone doing that. I don't know if I would try it or not. Guess it depends on how bad you think he is ear is. I would wait for tomorrow and call the doc. Give him pain killers tonight. Good luck

tylenol of advil for the pain. Most doctors have a covering facility that will call in a perscription to a 24 hour pharmacy or even have you go to their covering doctor.

Try some warm castoil, then put some drops of this in her ear this really works, my grandmother did this to my daughter when she was 1 .

In addition to the pain meds give him some decongestant to clear some of the fluilds in his sinuses and ears.

is he complaining about pain? is he pulling at his ears if so you can try to give him some baby tylenol to ease the pain until the morning then call your doctor as early as possible.
