what is the quickest and easiest way to clean a fish tank?

I put the new water in separate containers, add the water treatment, let it set 24 hours, clean the tank the next day, and refill with the new (now 24 hours old) water.

Use a syphon, it pulls the all the junk out AND the bad water out at the same time. If you talking about a new tank and waiting to get fish to put them in.... you need to wait. It will become VERY cloudy from day 1-4 or so and it is cycling so wait like 3 days, and treat it right when you put the water in. If you are as inpatient as I am, you can get Ozarka Spring water, and treat it with (Jungle Start Right).

They need to be in water they will actually survive in, you should also get Prime and Ammo lock but don't use these till later on.... if your Ph is out of range, you need to get (Jungle Correct pH Tank Buddies). This is recommended by petsmart you can use this every 24 hrs as needed, every tablet is for 10 gallons, you can just break it if your tank is smaller. One of the most important things you need also, get a test kit, (Quick Dip, 5 in one) & (Quick Dip for ammonia)

I have coldwater goldfish and heres what I do.

prepare 10% of your tank water in a bucket using a water treatment conditioner to elimate harmful chorines etc.

Let this water stand for about 24 hours to get to room temp.

then take out 10% of the tank water and keep this water to rinse out your filter sponge as this puts back in the good bacteria into the sponge(sounds yukky but it does keep the water clear).

Use an algae sponge round the sides of the tank to keep the glass clear. Your fish should never need to come out of the tank unless you are moving house.I also use a treatment once I have replaced the water to keep it looking crystal clear.I usually do this routine about once every 2 to 4 weeks.

Never clean a fish tank completely unless the fish are all gone. You only want to do a 20% water change, about 1 time a week. If you do this is should be clean.
