Any suggestions for a subject author for my final project?

Ok, our English class was assigned a final project: to choose an author and give a 7-10 minute oral report. The report should contain critical details about the author's life, style, novels, traditions, influences, etc.

My original choice was C.S. Lewis, because he spoke out boldly about his beliefs. However, one of my "friends" decided that they were going to steal my idea. So I need a new idea.

I'd prefer that the author be a deep thinker, with strong convictions. I would like for the author to be a Christian. Also, I would prefer to do my report on a deceased writer, possibly a classical writer.

Any suggestions?

There are many persuasive, classical, Christian writers (any western author from the years 200-1800 would be a safe bet) but here are some of the best:

1)For classical writers, i would suggest St. Thomas Aquinas, who wrote some of the most important, powerful, and cited work out there. Some of "Confessions" is also wildly entertaining.

2)If you want to do a poet, i would suggest John Donne. His sonnets are full of metaphysics, sin, death, god, and suicide; crazy deep stuff to accompany an interesting personal life.

    3) Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, or Nathanial Hawthorne would also be excellent choices

I would say maya angelou, she is a poet, so you could incorporate some of her work into it taking up a bit of time, and she had a really interesting life, she had something bad happen to her as a kid and turned mute for a few years, she was homeless had her son at 15 or 16 and eventually started writing, she writes about the pwer of women, and racial prejudice, and a few of her poems have become songs, she would be good coz it would be interesting!

Consider someone who is both Christian, deeased, and not as well known to your generation, but not to far removed. I suggest you read Barry Sadler's "Casca". It tells the story of the Roman soldier who thrust his spear into the side of Christ on the cross and he is forced to walk the Earth until the second coming. Sadler, in addition to being an author, was a singer, composer, a Green Beret in the Vietnam War, and a soldier of fortune.

What about Lewis Carol and the Adventures in Wonderland or T.S. Elliott and Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats.

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry The Little Prince Its both deeply religious and political. Exupery is an interesting author as he simply disappears.
