I have a cousin who is a mason / bricklayer. His Father owned a construction company and was also a bricklayer His son became a bricklayer. I think that you need to do an apprenticeship with a master bricklayer. After a period of time you become something called a journeyman. Different places in the world and different states in the US have different requirements.

There are many more sites on the web with info. (Make sure you type in "bricklayer" and not "mason".) It really also depends on where you live as to how much training is required. Good luck to you! :)
