Toddler bumps head?

The same thing happened my son . He had a bump the size of an egg on his forehead. Looks real scary. He cried immediately afterwards and that's the key. As long as he cried, it didn't knock him out and if he is behaving normal now, I wouldn't worry. When I called the Ped. they told me to just watch him at nap time and if he sleeps way past his usual time, to wake him up and call them back. Also you could try the 'how many fingers do I have' trick. If he is seeing clearly, he's just fine.

Children often hit their heads. The signs to watch for typically are, vomiting soon after, seizures, or unconsciousness right after the injury occurs. These signs often indicate a serious head injury. Sometimes however, there can be a serious head injury without these signs. If you don't feel right about the situation, or your child won't settle after a long period of time, it is probably a good idea to go to the ER. When my daughter was 3, she fell out of a shopping cart and landed on her head. We called the paramedics and they looked at her and said she was fine, but I knew it wasn't right. After they left, she started vomiting. We took her to the ER and found that she had fractured her skull and had 3 bleeds on her brain. After a 3 day hospital stay, the bleeds went down, thankfully and she went home. She is just fine today. A year later my friend's daughter fell off her bunk bed and hit her head. She watched her and looked for the classic signs, but they never happened. She stayed up with her all night, feeling in her heart something was not right, and finally took her in to the ER in the morning. Turns out her daughter had also fractured her skull. She stayed in the hospital a while and is also fine now. I've also had friend whose daughter fell from her 2nd story bedroom window onto the driveway below and walked away with only scrapes and scratches. The point is, always look for the classic signs I mentioned above, but if they don't happen and you are not comfortable with the situation, there is nothing wrong with going to the ER anyway.

As long as he is acting like him self dont stress you self to much lots of toddlers bump their heads. Just keep an eye on him just incase the lump swells or he looks like his eyes are rolling in the back of the head. Most turn out ok but if your really worried ask nieghbours or relatives for there opinion.

My son has bumped his head a lot!! From experience, I wouldn't worry about it.. If he's not crying then he's more than likely okay.. Even if he had a concussion the one thing you can do is not put him down for a nap until 2-3 hrs have passed.. If he still seems good then, don't worry about it!! Continue to call the Ped. if you still have concerns!! Good luck

I think as long as he didn't pass out he's fine. My two year old son somehow managed to fall this summer and hit the back of his head on a rock, I completely panicked, he was bleeding all over the darn place but he was fine, had no concussion or anything. Children's heads are alot harder than we realise I think.. LOL. But you might still want to call the doc just to double check or to make yourself feel better about it.

Though if he falls asleep and you have trouble waking him I would definately take him to the doctors

We rushed our first baby to the hospital the first time he bumped his head! It is normal to be so concerned. I think the rule of thumb is if the bump swells outward, it is okay. I use a homeopathic medicine calls Bumps and Bruises by Hylands. It seems to help calm them down and reduced swelling when they have had a bad bump. The tablets are almost sweet and dissolve instantly on their tongue. If he didn't throw up and he is back to normal, he is probably fine.

Keep trying his pedi. but as long as he has a knot he should be fine. If a knot pops out it's a good sign if not he needs to go to the ER. My daughter fell off the top bunk & hit the bottom metal fram on the way down. She was unconscious for a few seconds. Also jsut keep an eye on him. He may have a concusion but I was told there's no reason to keep them awake or wkae them up every few minutes liek we used to do.(we panicked & took her to the ER cause it popped up so quickly.)Still keep calling your pedi & see what they say, they may wanna have a catscan done just to make sure, but they may not. I hope he's ok.

The forehead is the safest place for a child to hit his head. My son had a third eye in his forehead for four years. If he got up with no drowsiness do not worry.
