Timothy Dalton decided to quit the role after legal problems halted production of the Bond films in the early 1990s. The fact he did only two Bond films had nothing to do with his performance in either "The Living Daylights" or "Licence To Kill."

As for whether Dalton was appropriate for the role, many fans of the literary Bond -- myself included -- feel that Dalton's portrayal was the closest to the Ian Fleming Bond than any of the actors before him. The Bond films at the end of the Sean Connery era and throughout the Roger Moore era were not anywhere close to the character as created by Fleming.

Because He sucked at being Bond. Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnon are the best! Roger Moore is ok. But, he was a better "Saint".

Pretty darn good. "Licence to Kill" is a favorite of mine. It was about friendship and loyalty. Timothy Dalton did a great job portraying that side of Bond. * * *

Because he was crap. Sean Connery was by far the best. Roger Moore came in second.

because you know without a doubt Sean Conery was the best james bond ever. admitt it...

Either he wasn't that good...or he had better offers from elsewhere, or the story line wasn't something he liked. Not sure which, I liked Roger Moore the best!

I don't know! It stinks. He was the BEST LOOKING James Bond ever!

He was a fill in because Pierce Brosnan was tied up with his tv show & they won;t let him do the movies till his contract was up

I don't know, but he fit that role perfectly. Way better than Roger Moore.
