Working for Walmart?? Job? Pay? Area?

Hi, I just started working for walmart in the south. I have prior experience (3 years working there years ago, plus worked for kmart, target, as well as alot of other retail stores). I only got $1.00 more an hour then I was making when I worked there the first time 14 years ago. (which is not much) I think this sucks. No cost of living increase was even given or something for experience.

I am just curious if anyone would tell me:

1. What job you have or had there?

2. What they started your pay at?

3. What area you are from?

I am thinking of putting in my 2 weeks notice because this really burns my butt. I am sure I can find a better paying job somewhere else. Please share your expericene.

Hi, I am a former Walmart employee. I have also worked for Walmart twice. The first time that I worked for Walmart was in the Austin, Texas area from January 1996 to June 1998. I was a cashier. When I first started working there it was great. The store was still small ,not a supercenter, and I really felt like I was part of a family and that I was appreciated. Well, during that time the store I worked at relocated to a new supercenter store and that's when everything seemed to go downhill. It seemed as if they really didn't care about anyone's individual needs anymore. I think sometime between 1996 and 1998 is also around the time that Sam Walton passed away. Boy, could you tell it too. It seemed as if they only cared about the money. The company has definitely changed since Sam Walton has been gone. :(

I don't remember exactly what I was making when I first started working there in 1996, but I know when I finally got fed up and quit in 1998 I was making $6.19 and I was about to get a 25 cent raise. I knew I couldn't afford to quit, but I just had to get out of there.

The second time that I worked for Walmart was from September 2004 to June 2005 and I was a cashier then also. I had moved from my hometown to live with my cousin in Brenham, Texas. When I got there I started filling out job applications and ,even though I didn't want to, I filled out one for Walmart too. I just kept telling myself that maybe working for them would be different since it had been a while and it was in a different area. Boy, was I wrong!! It was still the same horrible company!! Eventually, things didn't work out between me and my cousin and I had to move back to my hometown. I was able to get transferred to the Walmart store there. It was still the same old thing.

What really makes me mad about Walmart is that it seems as though the money and fame has gone to their heads. They don't care about their associates, their benefits are horrible, and the pay is really bad. It would probably be a very good idea if you put in your 2 weeks notice at Walmart. FYI: JCPenney is a good place to work.

I have worked at two Walmarts.

    1. Wisconsin and I started in 2000. My pay was 6.25 an hour and increased to 7.41 by the end of the two years I worked there. Mainly because I was employee of the month three times. I worked as a cashier, stationary, snack bar, electronics, lawn and garden, anywhere they put me. It was a smaller Walmart and not one of those horrible supercenters so I loved that job.

    2. I moved to IL in 2003 and I started at a walmart superstore due to being desperate for a job. I started at 6.50 an hour. They stuck me in jewelry and it was one of the worst jobs I ever had. They don't have stockers for the jewelry department so I had to lug huge boxes and deal with stupid people who wanted to barter on the prices...seriously! People tried to get discounts on crappy jewelry like I was Zales or something! That job only lasted 6 weeks...I was only there for the Christmas season anyway....but once I found a different job I was out of there.

Walmart has very low wages and low benefits. The only good part is at least they offer vacation and sick pay. If you can find a better job...I suggest doing it.

Don't work for Walmart. I never see happy people working there. Yes, Walmart does suck in more than one area. I try not to shop there. People at Target are happier.

I recently read a book about Walmart. In the book it stated the average wage topped out at around 10.00 an hour. One of the ways Walmart keeps it's cost low is by paying it's workers low wages.

I'm pretty sure you can look for jobs online and with the jobs I think pay info is included.
