Christmas gift for 16 year old girl?

In your situation, it might actually be better to go with something on the smaller side, depending on why you have been absent from her life until this point. As a child of divorced parents, I had always got the notion that my parents were competing for my vote when they bought me something big. If you are intent on something big, make it something that shows a concern for her well being.

My suggestions:

Something from the printer/scanner/copier/fax family. Big as far as gifts go, but depending on the situation it can definately show a concern for her schooling, as I have found them to be infinately useful for printing homework and the scanning and fax have also been useful for homework. (I have had a HP officejet v40 for 5 years and haven't had a problem with it yet)

A giftcard to a clothing store. It has been a rare occasion that I have met a teenage girl that doesn't like to shop for clothes.

Something you've heard her say she's been out of. If she paints, is she out of oils? Something that shows that for the time you've gotten to know her you've been paying attention.

An Adobe Photoshop product. Great for those with an artistic personality, and depending on which version/package you get ranges from relitively cheap (around $90 for Photoshop Elements 5.0) to extremely expensive (around $1,600 for Adobe Creative Suite Production Studio Premium). (I have had Adobe Photoshop elements 3.0 for a couple years now and love it.)

Computer parts. If she's building her computer in a class in the public school system, I highly doubt that the computer will be equipped with high-end parts, unless the parts are supplied yourself. What might be especially useful if she likes graphic design and/or gaming is a graphics card. High end graphics cards are often too expensive for the average teen to afford. (Visiontek Radeon X1600 XT Xtreme Gamer Edition Graphics Card around $280-$290). Memory is also another good option for those purposes. 512 MB of higher end DDR2 memory costing around $70-$80.

In a situation like yours it is very difficult to tell which kind of gift would be most appropriate. From my experience it would be best not to try to win her over with something expensive, but rather to give her something that shows that you've been paying attention. Congradulations on your new found relationship. Well How about a car. If not resonable, The a Cell phone, or upgrade. Maybe alittle of everything like: Gift card no less then 75 dollars at a department store. The best would be to contact her mom and see if they have to buy things for the construction a the computer. If you do not have a goo enough relationship to do that then show your daughter how commited you are to her and call the school. If you are able to buy things keep this present a secret cause when she opens that present she will know that you are listening and toned in real good and be very touvhed that you went to great extremes to learn about her. Depending on her atistic abilities You can go to a Hobby Lobby (crafts store) and buy her a punch of supplies, If it is music then go buy her her favorite instrument. Places finance. And one more idea, talk to her about the computer and find out what her plans for it past the completion level at school. Would she like to continue to biuld on it? You should make it a shopping trip.. Find out what her favorite stores (Aeropostale, Victoria Secrets, Holister, etc) Buy a few gift cards make a certificate for a $ paid shopping trip along with a few gift cards or token gift. Then make it a special time for you and her to spend a day or possibly weekend shopping and getting to know each other

I am a sixteen year old girl and we are hard to shop for. I would recommend maybe a home spa gift basket or make-up kit. You could collect various items and find a cute little tub and wrap them up in it. She will love the items and may be able to reuse the basket. If all else fails, Gift card, Gift Card, Gift Card.

Talk to her mom and find out what her favorite bands are. Look to see if there any upcoming concerts for those bands. Buy a couple of tickets and take her. It would be a great bonding experience for the two of you. Or take her out on a shopping spree. Try to plan something that will give the two of you time to be together. So you can get reacquainted. Take her out to dinner and a movie. Hope that helps.

You need to ask her some questions about the one she is building in school because if its any thing like the ones we were to build in high school then it's not going to be as nice, you can probably still buy her a better one. other options for you would be an ipod or an ipod deck or a digital camera and printer.

I would have loved a pottery wheel when i was that age. If she's artistic that way..she'd love that...or a professional paint set. I'd still love that. Redo a room at your place for her to use as a studio. Just don't give her money or gift cards..to impersonal as I assume you are on rocky ground at this point.

how about computer accesories like dust covers

cd keyboard covers etc

or another idea is art supplies lessons for an art class

or pottery class or a gift cert to an art shop she can pick out what she needs

It might be a little expensive but why don't you go away with her on a vacation like a cruise or Europe? You'll get to spend some time with her and she will appreciate the new culture(s) and of course the shopping.

Buy her anything new in Technology, I-Pod, MP3, Latest Cell Phone (so you can keep in touch), Or X-box 360, PS3, or a Nintendo Wii.
