I have had alot of debates on this topic over the years. First of all you must get the facts straight. To say that Vince didnt want to Bret to go to the WCW to disgrace teh belt is not right. That is the reason Vince gave to everyone to justify his own actions, which I personally think is lame. Bret was an honest person and had given his word that he would lose the title on the next raw episode.

Bret was forced by Vince to leave the WWE. Before this Bret had signed a 20 year contract with the WWE. Vince was happy also, he actually convinced Bret to sign the contract as he wanted Bret to stay with the WWE as he was their biggest star. But after the contract, after some time, Vince for some unknown reason wanted Bret to break the contract. I guess he was worried that Bret had a lot of influence with decision making due to his high status. He didnt want Bret to stay anymore with the WWE, that the contract to be cancelled and Bret move elsewhere. So as WCW was the main rival of WWE, it was only understood that Bret would join WCW. Many people hated Bret for leaving WWE and joining WCW, but they fail to note, that it was Vince who wanted him to leave.

As most of you should know, that all matches are predecided, that who wins and how you are to win. So it was decided after long discussions and disagreements that Bret and Shawn were to have the last match at Survior Series in Montreal. It was decided that Bret would win as it was his last match in Canada, as it was his home country. Shawn was to put Bret in the sharp shooter, then Bret would reverse it and win the match. But as u all saw the match, when Shawn put him in, Vince told them to ring the bell. Vince, Shawn, and the referee Earl Hebner screwed him, they had it all planned. Shawn just acted like he knew nothing, but he was in on it.

Different people would obviously say that Bret was right, or that Vince was right. But I guess one could really tell who was right or wrong by judging the reactions of the other wrestlers. Brets immeadiate family, Owen, British Bulldog, Anvil, and a few other wrestlers boycotted the upcoming shows of WWE as they were disgusted by what Vince did. Even Undertaker and ken shamrock, all of them were angry at VInce. Almost all the wrestlers wanted to boycot, but it was only after Bret told them not void their existing contract, that they didnt boycot the upcoming shows.

You should see the documentary " Wrestling with Shadows ", Bret didnt make it himself. It was independantly made and showed the facts that led up to this screw job in montreal. I have read enough to believe that Vince did have some own personal selfish motive in wanting to get rid of Bret, and the screwjob was just to add insult to Bret.

I hope I have summarized it enough. Thats what i believe, you are entitled to your own opinion. CHeers!

Well if you believe wrestling with shadows then Vince is in the wrong. Brett and Vince agreed to have Brett win and then Brett would lose the belt on the Raw show on Monday. However Vince decided to screw Brett at the Survivor Series.

However, I can see Vince's point. He couldn't let Brett go to WCW with the title belt that is just bad business. He did what he thought he had to do to protect himself and his company.

Personally I think a middle ground could have been found to accomplish both goals. Having a run in causing Brett to lose the belt would have prevented most of these problems. But they both have big egos what are you gonna do.

Though some people think it's a been a work the whole time, that really remains to be seen.

Vince was wrong. He and Bret had a deal and he broke it and used an unsuspecting Shawn Michaels to do it!! How low can you get?!?!! If he didn't want Bret to leave with a win then he should have just been man enough to say no from the beginning. Did you see the documentary on Bret Hart on the Discovery channel that aired shortly after that happened? It was still being made when that happened and there's footage on it of what went on backstage immediately afterwards. Everyone was pissed!

i believe so unhappy that Bret Hart were given paid fairly some money, then lost his determined adventure with the WWF. i purely won't be able to believe Vince McMahon, the owner of the completed business corporation, WWE who has the huge very last say on each and every thing, he would purely bypass available and do what he thinks is the perfect for the business corporation. Then 11 lengthy lengthy years later, Vince McMahon has the balls to enable Bret Hart into the hall Of repute? i'm so shrink up over Bret Hart and Montreal Screwjob. i believe sorry for Bret via way he became dealt with in the time of his very last 12 months. Bret had given his life to WWE and did not surely pick to go away yet although you won't be able to refuse to do something your boss asks you to do. BQ: purely each and every from time to time, an attacking wrestler might want to (illegally) hook the opponent's tights for better leverage.

  • Vince was right for doing what he did. He did not want Bret to go to WCW and disgrace the championship like Alundra Blayze did with the Womens Championship. Vince did what he did to protect his own company.....Just like anyone else would do

sadly to say this but vince was right because bret hart was leaving to wcw and he thought he was going to take the wwf title with him. but he was wrong and vince did what was right for his business.
