Use an Intel Core 2 Duo, they perform very well. The E6400 hits the sweet spot as far as price/performance is concerned. OCZ makes very good DDR2 RAM. And as for a GPU, it depends on what you want to spend. The Radeon X1650 Pro is really great value for money, and the Geforce 8800 has great performance.
